![]() The Micro Center in Paterson, NJ charges just over 3% sales tax, so I saved around $180 in sales tax as compared to the Micro Center store in Yonkers, NY, which is closer to me, but charges just under 9%. ![]() If there's one near you, their in-store-only pricing beat almost any online prices, including Amazon, and the employees in the "Build Your Own" section really know their stuff a pleasant surprise in today's retail world. ![]() ![]() Pro tip: Micro Center is freaking awesome and I can't recommend them highly enough. I started buying some components just before Christmas because I wanted to claim part of the tax benefits for year 2022 and the rest in 2023. If you're not the type to build your own system, there are plenty of pre-built options that'll get you there, but plan to spend at least 25-30% more for comparable specs. YouTube was/is an invaluable resource in this venture, and I recommend "Tech Notice" and "JayzTwoCents" channels for anyone researching a new build. I had to do a lot of research to get up-to-date on current specs and protocols, to choose my hardware and software, and to learn best practices for building after 12 years of dormancy in this respect. The first order of business was building a new audio/video workstation PC-I'm a Windows/Cubase guy and have been since 1993, so let's not open the Mac vs PC can of worms. This, coupled with the rock solid Scarlett interface, is why I've been able to stick with it for so long, but its time has passed. The PC is old and bogged down with years of crap, but I built it to the highest specs at the time, so it still records 10 tracks of drums without issue. My interface is a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 (1st Gen) to which I feed 8 channels from my Audient ASP880 via ADAT I/O. Since 2011, my studio PC has been an Intel Core i7 2600/Windows 7 system w/16GB RAM, running Cubase on ancient dual 19" Dell flat panel monitors. Following up on my earlier thread, things are moving along in my studio upgrade project and I'm just about to install everything in the studio.
